What to Tell Your Insurer
When you reach the claims team, be clear and factual. Have this information ready:
- ✓Your policy number (printed on your insurance certificate or app)
- ✓The date, time, and location where the flooding occurred
- ✓A brief description of what happened (e.g. "car was parked in basement, parking flooded overnight")
- ✓The current condition of the vehicle (still submerged, water receded, moved to dry ground)
- ✓Your police report or TWIMC certificate number if you have one
- ✓Whether you attempted to start the engine after the flood
Ask for a claim reference number before you end the call. If you cannot get through by phone, send a written notification via email immediately so you have a documented record proving you reported within the required timeframe.
